Hey, friend! It's deliverability time again.
Yesterday, I sent out an unsubscribe notification (well, actually, a
reconfirmation request, but worded in such a way as to say "goodbye,
unless you take action") to about ten percent of this newsletter list,
addresses that hadn't registered an open in the last six months. In
response, I got a handful of auto-replies indicating various people were
on long term leave, had left a given job, or had retired.
A solid number of folks did receive and click on the reconfirm link and
are back on the list. Thank you for reading and being interested, even
if your email client blocks the open tracking pixel. It wasn't a huge
percentage, and my overall email universe is small, but it does
highlight that that if we're going to segment or suppress based on
opens, we need to be aware that it will occasionally result in
suppressing a live address or two.
I remember the old days when we used to tell people that periodic
reconfirmations of a standing list was a best practice. When did that
change? Probably around the time marketing platforms started tracking
opens, I suppose.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and now, on to the articles.
That's all for now. Got an idea for a future story?
Or an email question that I could answer in a blog post?
Or just want to share feedback? Please feel free to reply! 😊
